Canadian Josh Adams earned some impressive results in the final rounds of the Formula Kart Florida Winter Tour. Competing in the competitive KZ2 class, Adams was seen on the third step of podium twice during the weekend at the Ocala Gran Prix facility in Ocala, Florida.

After a DNF and a sixth place finish in the opening rounds in Orlando, the Guelph, Ontario resident would sit out the second round of the Tour. Hoping to improve upon his Orlando results, Adams would not disappoint. Running fast all weekend and often being seen among the top three on the time sheets, the GP pilot would manage two top-ten qualifying positions, clocking the sixth fastest time for both sessions. Prefinal action would see Adams score the fifth position on Saturday and sixth on Sunday. Turing up the wick for the finals, Adams would steer his Innisfil Indy tuned GP chassis to two podium finishes.

With his strong results in Ocala, Adams was able to earn the fifth place in the overall KZ2 class championship. As the winter series has now wrapped, Adams will now turn focus to his Canadian karting campaign. The Zaino.ca / MG Tires sponsored driver will see action in the Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship as well as the international WSK Series event in Mont Tremblant July 7-11. 2011 will also see Adams compete in the New Jersey Sprint Series, a five event series on the US east coast.

Josh Adams would like to thank Innisfil Indy as well and Joe and Tony Launi for their support. For sponsorship opportunities and more information on Josh Adams, please contact Mike Adams via e-mail at Mike@Zaino.ca.

The final race of the championship was for the KZ2 and Formula Stock Moto shifter classes. The shifter classes have put on great races all year and this weekend was no exception. After taking second in the last three races, GP driver Zack Meyer promised he had something in store for Sunday’s races and he was right. After taking the pole position in morning qualifying, Zach was on the pole for the KZ2 Pre-Final. With every lap of KZ2 competition being led by either Zack Meyer or Danny Formal, it was a bit of a surprise to see Matthew Di Leo get the holeshot to take the lead going into turn one of the Pre-Final.

Di Leo’s lead wasn’t to last long as Meyer and Formal were on him like two pit bulls on a ham sandwich. Before long Zack Meyer had taken over the top spot. However, we’ve seen this scenario before. But, unlike the past few races where Meyer would get the lead only to have Formal run him down, this time Zack was pulling away and doing so with a smoothness in his driving we hadn’t seen since the opening rounds in Orlando. For his efforts, Zach took a well-earned Pre-Final win.

In the KZ2 Final, it was Danny Formal’s turn to get the lead at the start. This didn’t fit into Zack Meyer’s plan for the race and so on lap three, he took back the lead and started to pull away for another win. Behind Formal, Matthew Di Leo and Joshua Adams had a ferocious battle over third which ended up being second when Formal failed post race tech.

In the final point tally for the year, Zack Meyer stands above as the KZ2 points champion. Second place in the championship goes to Matthew Di Leo and third goes to James Dawson.

ORLANDO, FL - Canadian GP Racing Karts driver Zack Meyer kicked off his 2011 karting season with a dominating performance at the opening round of the 2011 Florida Winter Tour at the Orlando Kart Center. Meyer, was quick from the opening session and ended the double race weekend with two poles, two pre-final wins and two final wins.

"It's a great way to start the year," Meyer said after Sunday's final. "We were fast right off the trailer. I have to thank Joe Launi for all his hard work on our GP Racing Karts program this winter at the Innisfil Indy - it really paid off this weekend."

On Saturday, Meyer dominated the KZ2 class, and repeated the performance again on Sunday with none other than Williams F1 driver Rubens Barrichello taking the runner up spot. "It was great to have a F1 driver - Barrichello - in the race today. I just had to keep pushing hard for the win."

Meyer will have to put the opening weekend behind him quickly as he now prepares to mount his GP Racing Kart Rotax DD2 to compete in the opening round of the FWT for the Rotax classes.

"This weekend will be as tough as the first round of the KZ2 class," Meyer said. "There are lots of good drivers in good equipment in DD2, but I am confident in my GP Racing Kart and Joe Launi to help me get to the front this weekend."
